Mongolian Steppe (1190 - 1206) Warrior Scourge of the Steppe is the second book in the Warrior series. It tells the story of Temujin's rise to power with the aid of Wang Khan of the Kereit. How he systematically destroyed his enemies to create a Mongolian nation under the guise of adding plunder to his wealth until there was no one left to stand against him. And the brutality of his revenge when he finds those who left him and his family to die on the steppe.

Temujin is a warrior whose story has been told many times and I cannot help but admire someone who has another attempt at writing the story of part of the life of a very great man. There is, as always, descriptions of much blood and gore, but these internecine wars were crucial to Temujin's attempts to break clear of his fellow warriors of the steppes. His great sometime ally Wang Khan and the wars with him and against him are woven in significant detail. The descriptions of his commanding general Subadai are very good and his gradual realization that if he was to impose order on the Mongols he had to cause laws to be written that were simple (but in out sense, quite brutal) could not be misunderstood and could be followed by his descendants.
This book ends just before the Kiriltai (or quiriltai) was to be held to proclaim him Khan of Khans, or great Khan.
I look forward to reading the 3rd book in the series as to how he made the transition from warring leader to the Graet Khan and how Kubilai Khan came to power.
